LLL Friday WildBikeChi

Friday Coffee ride with a difference. Mixing in some Taichi, learning about “Wilding” & “Biophilia” all at a very chilled pace.

The Ride: about 50 minutes. 15km. <18kmh – Chill. Stop for lights. We start at Lululemon Dongping Road and make our way down Fuxing Road taking in the old french concession. We then take a left into Xingtiandi, go past XTD Lululemon, and go around XTD lake, meandering through the Old Town. We hit the Huangpu River, take a right and ride parallel to the river all the way to destination. Tree-lined avenues, lake, historic sites, river, parks ending in….

The Activities: TaiChi to help with post ride recovery. About half an hour. Coffee and a nibble. Intro to “wilding” and “Digital Wilding”. Lululemon have very kindly put the event on for us

Secure bike parking provided, drinks and a small breakfast snack.

What is Wilding?

Wilding or reWilding can be seen as “Ecosystem Restoration”. The aim is to restore the eco system to where nature can take care of itself. Some examples of this are trying to balance people and nature, along with species reintroduce. The key point for me is the promotion of diversity. In China there are many reWilding projects from gorilla garding to large scale tree planing but more needs to be done considering 30 years of the worlds fastest development. Working towards a long term balance and working to natures laws are key.

What is Biophilia?

A bond between living things, us, and the natural world. It relates mostly to the urban built environment. The more you immerse yourself in the “green” world, around clean water, with animals and wildlife and out of a sterile environment, the better it is for you. There are studies linking living, working and exercising in a biophilic environment which; improve productivity, lower stress, lower sickness recovery times, reduce depression, better memory retention and improved creativity!

Cycling in a Healthy Natural Environment

Cycling in a wild or biophilic environment is an important part of my life. Its a stress killer, it provides me with a sense of achievement, its meditative at both low and high intensity (in the zone) and it just puts me in a better frame of mind.

Try it, cycle along a quiet canal lane in Shanghai or up a hill into the mountains.

Mental Health

Please read the Lululemon 2024 Global Wellbeing Report. Some very interesting takeaways.

Many thanks for sharing pictures of the ride:
